GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The controversy over meal service at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans is closer to being resolved.

The Office of Veterans Affairs held a meeting Friday morning at the home and took public comment on the issue.

The problem started after a federal inspection found that the home did not have the proper license to sell and serve food to anyone who was not a resident of the home.  As a result, family members and volunteers were told they had to bring in their own food if they wanted to eat with a resident while visiting.  That didn't sit well with some people. State Representative Winnie Brinks attended the meeting and urged the home to come up with a solution to the issue.

The board voted to obtain the necessary license from the Kent County Health Department, but says they'll need to put in new procedures before they can begin serving food to everyone.

There is no projected date yet for completion.
