LANSING, Mich. — Traffic is already lighter than normal leading up to the July 4th holiday weekend, but weekend travel will be even easier as work on state road projects is suspended. Since the state and most companies are treating July 3 as a holiday, the road work suspension begins Thursday, July 2, at 3 p.m.

Drivers will be able to observe the higher construction zone speed limit of 60 mph instead of the requirement to slow to 45 mph when workers are present. Some speed limits will remain in effect, so obey speed limit signs entering construction zones.

Any projects where lane or ramp closures can be reversed will see those lanes and ramps open. But some projects will remain the same through the weekend:

I-196

  • Ramp from eastbound I-196 to westbound 28th Street closed

M-11

  • One lane in each direction on 28th Street at I-196
  • Roundabout construction at Wilson Avenue at Remembrance Road has Wilson Avenue closed north of the intersection and Remembrance Road closed southeast of the intersection

US-131 at Stadium Drive

  • Some ramps closed, one lane in each direction on Stadium Drive over US-131.

I-94 at Sprinkle Road

  • All ramps closed, and one lane in each direction on Sprinkle Road over I-94.

US-31

  • Lane closures on southbound US-31 over Washington Avenue in Holland. Washington Avenue under southbound US-31.

Michigan road construction information is available online at MiDrive, and an MiDrive app is available for iPhone and Android phones.
