NILES, Mich. — Emergency personnel worked to save a toddler who was pulled from a swimming pool in Niles on Thursday evening, initially found unresponsive. Deputies say both police and SMCAS Ambulance services were dispatched to a home in the 1800 block of Stateline Road in Niles Township just before 8:00 p.m. to help an unresponsive child that was found in a pool.

First responders immediately administered CPR until SMCAS Ambulance arrived on scene and rushed the 2-year-old male to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The toddler and his mother were visiting his grandmother’s home when the child was found, investigators said. It is unknown at this point in the investigation why or how the child got into the water.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incident.
