WYOMING, Mich. – The proposed sale of 80% of Metro Health to a health system in Tennessee is not going forward.

In a statement from Doyle Hayes, the chairman of Metro Health Board of Directors, they have worked on the joint venture with Community Health Systems, Inc. in Tennessee for two years, but they are closing their planned affiliation.

The new partnership would have made Metro Health the first investor-owned hospital in West Michigan.

See below for the complete statement:

After nearly two years working toward a joint venture affiliation, Metro Health and Community Health Systems, Inc. will not be closing on our planned affiliation.

At each step in the process, both organizations committed to finding the right fit for patients, employees, physicians and the local community. While each organization worked hard to make the transaction possible, we have not been able to agree on some important details.

Metro Health remains committed to serving patients in West Michigan with the high quality care they expect and deserve.

We want to thank all of the employees, local community members and government officials who helped with this project.
