BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – A 43-year-old man is in custody after allegedly defacing the Fallen Officer Memorial in Battle Creek Monday.

The man was arrested on Tuesday after police were called Monday afternoon by an employee in City Hall who noticed the man acting suspiciously at the memorial.

Each of the brass plaques on the memorial were scratched with the word “bio-Psychal” on the hat or the forehead of the image.

A detective reported that she had been receiving emails and voicemails from someone using the term “bio-psychal.”  She received an email on Tuesday from the same person and they were able to determine he was sending the email from the library.  They didn’t know at the time about the vandalism, so he was not taken into custody.  A short time later, police made the connection with the vandalism and picked him up near West Michigan Avenue and J.W. Patterson Way.

The man’s name has not yet been released and official charges have not yet been filed.
