GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  A West Michigan weather visionary has been awarded a national honor from the National Weather Service.

Dave McIntyre of Hastings and WBCH radio has been given the Thomas Jefferson Award for Co-Op Weather Observations for over the past 27 years.  Only five such awards are handed out across the country.

McIntyre has served in passing along weather observations to the NWS.  The presentation was made at a three-day conference in Grand Rapids of the Great Lakes Operational Meteorology Workshop, which convenes meteorologists from all over the Great Lakes Region and Canada.

McIntyre also helped launch SkyWarn in Barry County in the 1960’s and helped in the drive to have the Michigan State Police staff a post in Hastings.
