KEELER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 16-year-old  was arrested Thursday, August 27 for breaking into a home and stealing six firearms.

Van Buren County sheriffs say that the theft occurred in the 86000 block of 67th St. in Keeler Township. The homeowner was gone from the home for just two hours. Upon returning, they found that their home had been forcibly entered and that some items were missing, among them: two handguns, two shotguns, and two rifles.

Additional items that were stolen include: 1500 rounds of ammunition, power drills, and hand tools.

This is the second time this home has been broken into, the first happening in June 2015. Since that first break-in, the homeowner installed several security cameras in and around the home.

Using the footage, deputies were able to determine that the suspect had likely walked to the home. Further investigation revealed that he had entered a barn and vehicle on the property before entering the home.

During their investigation, several gunshots were heard in the area that were consistent with the sounds of handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Deputies located the 16-year-old suspect at a nearby residence in possession of the stolen property. He was identified as the same person in the security video.

The teenager also confessed to being behind the break-in that happened previously in June.

He was arrested and sent to the Allegan County Youth Detention Center.
