SIDNEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A motorcyclist was seriously hurt after hitting a cow on a Montcalm County road.

The crash happened at about 8:30pm on Sidney Road, near Hillman Road, Wednesday night.

Deputies say that Mark Olmstead, 57, was heading east on Sidney Road on his 2006 Harley Davidson when he hit the cow that had entered the roadway.  Witnesses say they had seen the cow in the road and chased it out of the road at one point, but it came back.

Olmstead was flown to Spectrum Health in downtown Grand Rapids by AeroMed.  The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office reports that he is in stable condition.

The owner of the cow, Dennis Baese of Elsie, told deputies he had been made aware that the cow was out of its pen and had been headed to the area to get it.
