TAVARES, Fla. -- A baby in Florida who was originally given days to live after being born with most his skull missing is defying the odds.

Multiple news organizations are reporting that Jaxon Buell was born with a rare brain malfunction called Microhydranencephaly.

His parents Brittany Buell, 27, and Brandon Buell, 30, from Tavares, Fla. were reportedly told he was not expected to live. But he celebrated his first birthday last month.

Microhydranencephaly is a severe abnormality of brain development without a cause that has no cure.

“Jaxon has already shown how strong, smart, and special he is, accomplishing feats that doctors doubted he'd ever be able to do, shows improvements each and every day, and just reached a miraculous milestone in celebrating his 1st birthday,” according to the Jaxon Strong Facebook page.
