KENTWOOD, Mich. – As FOX 17’s Forever Home series continues, we introduce you to children and teens in the Michigan foster care system who, just like anyone else, need parents of their own.

From the moment you meet her, Sedaja is confident, sweet, and she will leave you uplifted. She has been moving between foster homes for several years now. Although she said she is thankful to be welcomed into a home for now, Sedaja said she needs a mother to look up to.

“It feels like you’re stuck somewhere, like you want to get out of it real bad, and when you’re released you just feel air; just feels free,” Sedaja said about being in the foster care system.

“I really hope to get adopted by a good family, that’s very awesome.”

First a quick lesson Tuesday at Kentwood Fun Spot, and then off she went taking big strides roller skating.

Sedaja has only roller skated once, but this is what she chose to do because that’s just how she is: brave and adventurous.

“Try stuff, you might like it,” said Sedaja.

For as long as she can remember, Sedaja said she has wanted to become a lawyer and fight for others.

“It’s where you solve something, like a puzzle, you put the pieces together,” she said.

And just like skating, she is a fast learner in school. When FOX 17 asked her how the eighth grade is going, she said, “it’s going fantastic! The work is easy and I caught on really fast for math.”

Outside of school, Sedaja is looking forward to traveling, maybe playing volleyball next year, but mostly spending time with a family.

“I really want a mom, and I really want some sisters, so somebody I can look up to,” said Sedaja.

She wants a family she can have fun with, too, like “going shopping at the mall, movies, going to the park.”

Until she is adopted, Sedaja said she is working hard and staying strong.

“[I’m] trying to work harder for myself to get adopted,” said Sedaja. “I like to keep my head up high and not down.”

Families who would like to learn more about Sedaja, or if you are interested in adoption, please call Orchards Children’s Services at 1 (855) 694-7301.

Remember, adoption through the Michigan foster care system is free of charge.

FOX 17 would like to extend a special thanks to Kentwood Fun Spot for this special filming session!
