Gunfire reported in parking lot near Kalamazoo Public Safety headquarters

KALAMAZOO, Mich – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating a reported shooting near police headquarters that happened this morning.

Detectives say it was around 11:30 a.m. when they received reports of multiple shots being fired near a commercial parking lot in the 1200 block of S. Burdick St.  The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is 150 E. Crosstown Parkway is just a block away.

Investigators say multiple vehicles involved left the scene prior to police arriving.

Witnesses reported seeing a Jeep with a black hard top and a tan or gold sedan, possibly a Chrysler, pulling into the parking lot along the south side of a building.  Witnesses reported a male had exited the sedan and approached the Jeep when an occupant in the Jeep opened fire.

Police say multiple shots were fired between occupants in both vehicles.  No injuries have been reported as a result of the shooting.
