HOLLAND, Mich. — A section of northbound US-31 was closed for several hours after a pedestrian was hit and killed while trying to cross the road Saturday evening.

Deputies said Moriah Wright, 19, of Holland Township was hit while walking westbound at the crosswalk on 8th Street Saturday afternoon around 4:15, according to police.

Wright was hit and killed by a car driven by Carmen Ramirez-Dy, 25, also of Holland Township. The driver was headed north on US-31 and had a green light at the time of the crash, police said.

US-31 between 16th and 8th Streets reopened shortly before 7 p.m. after being closed for nearly three hours while investigators cleared the scene.
