ARLINGTON TWP, Mich. — A man was hospitalized after drunkenly driving his pickup truck into a pond, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said on Saturday evening around 11:30, they responded to a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a pond located in the 53000 block of M-43 in Arlington Twp.

Upon arriving, they found a 53-year-old Bangor man, who appeared drunk, laying on the shore near his blue Ford F-250 truck, which was partially submerged in the pond.

The man was taken to South Haven Hospital for treatment, as there was a concern that he would be hypothermic due to his exposure to the water and cold weather.

No arrests have been made. The incident will remain under investigation, and upon completion, an incident report will be filed with the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review of a possible criminal charge of operating while intoxicated.

The Bangor man’s identity is being withheld pending possible charges.
