LANSING, Mich.–  After talks over road funding reached an impassein Lansing last week, two state senators are expected to go head-to-head in a debate over the issue.

Sen. Patrick Colbeck, R-Canton, issued a challenge to debate road funding and Sen. Curtis Hertel, D-Meridian Township, accepted.

Their debate is set for 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Senate Appropriations Room on the third floor of the Capitol Building in Lansing.

Colbeck claims it’s not necessary to raise taxes to pay for the state’s crumbling roads and feels the state can do so with a list of alternatives.

Gov. Rick Snyder and lawmakers on both sides have been working on a $1.2 billion road funding plan, but talks reached a road block last week.

The doors to Tuesday’s debate open at 1:30 p.m. A podcast will be available after.
