KENTWOOD, Mich. — A 22-year-old man is facing charges after police say he brutally beat and killed his girlfriend’s dog.

Aaron Jay Dekkinga is charged with killing/torturing an animal and perjury.  The alleged abuse happened in February when Dekkinga was watching his girlfriend’s dog while she was on vacation with her family, according to Kentwood Police.

When the family returned home, police say they discovered the 6-year-old Pomeranian was dead.

A veterinarian determined the animal died of blunt force trauma and had a broken pelvis and bruises all over its body, according to Kentwood Police.

Online jail records show Dekkinga was charged Monday in Kentwood 62B District Court.  He has since bonded out of jail.
