WEST MICHIGAN — The National Weather Service has issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for areas north/west of Grand Rapids. These counties include Muskegon, Oceana, Newaygo, and Mecosta through 1 PM on Monday.

A couple of weak waves in the atmosphere will slide across the state over the next 12 to 18 hours helping to generate accumulating snow in these areas. With colder air already in place and a southerly wind expected, there will be some lake enhancement as well.

An inch or two may fall overnight, but the intensity is expected to increase around daybreak for the morning commute as we get a burst of slightly warmer air and energy enhancing the snowfall and producing another 1″ to 2″ Monday morning. I’m expecting a general 2″ to 4″ in the advisory counties and probably a dusting to an inch elsewhere. The further south/east from Grand Rapids, the less likely any accumulation.

Temperatures will remain below freezing overnight and for the Monday morning commute so make sure to slow things down for work or school. Get the complete West Michigan forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
