78-year-old man with dementia reported missing in Holland found safe

UPDATE from the Holland Department of Public Safety: As of 8:00 p.m., Blanksma was found in a parking lot of Van Hill Furniture in Holland and is returning home to be with family.

HOLLAND, Mich. — Emery Blanksma, 78, was reported missing Tuesday by Holland Department of Public Safety.

Blanksma’s wife left their apartment at Freedom Village, 145 Columbia, at about 2 p.m. and when she returned he was gone, according to a release.   Police responded to the residence at about 4:50 p.m.

Blanksma is believed to have taken the couple’s black 2011 Subaru Outback with Michigan plate ATB554.  He suffers from dementia and should not be driving, officials said in a release.

He was last seen wearing a blue jacket with a hood, beige pants and a beige hat with the words “Clinic of Hope” on it.
