On November 24, 1971, one of the most famous unsolved crimes would begin to take shape:  the legend of what happened to D.B. Cooper.

Cooper had hijacked a Boeing 727 and extorted $200,000 in ransom money, before jumping from the aircraft with a parachute into stormy weather conditions.

Nobody knows what happened to him or the money he took, despite manhunts and an FBI investigation that is still active today.  In 1980, a little boy recovered several thousand dollars of the ransom money along the Columbia River.  That was the last sign of anything related to the D.B. Cooper mystery.

Take a look at History.com’s full write-up on the lore of D.B. Cooper’s unsolved case.
