Grand Rapids officers respond to call of shots fired in 100 block of Dickinson St. SW on Tuesday night (November 24, 2015)

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – The Grand Rapids Police Department’s Major Case Team continues to investigate a shooting that happened Tuesday night on the city’s southwest side.

Just before 9:00 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Dickinson Street SW on a report people were harassing a 911 caller who reported hearing gunfire in the area.

While officers were on scene, gunshots were fired in the vicinity of an uniformed police Sergeant searching the area on foot.

Police say that shooting and the search for potential suspects led to a home in the 300 block of Dickinson Street SW.  Everyone inside that home was interviewed by investigators, along with additional witnesses.

Evidence of a shooting was located in the nearby area, indicating the Sergeant was in the vicinity of the shots being fired.  Investigators say it doesn’t appear the Sergeant was the intended target.

At this point in the investigation, no arrests have been announced.  No injuries were reported in these incidents.

Anyone having additional information on this case is being asked to contact the Grand Rapids Police Department at 616-456-3400 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
