MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Mosquitoes be warned — Mount Pleasant will be targeting you when warm weather returns.

The Morning Sun in Mount Pleasant reports Thursday that the city will spend more than $85,000 next year to control the blood suckers with chemical spray.

City Commissioners on Monday adopted a bid for the work following a public hearing.

Resident and former mayor Sharon Tilmann said mosquitoes have forced some people to install screens around their porches.

Tilmann said she also is concerned about the West Nile Virus that mosquitoes pick up from infected birds and pass onto to people.

But Isabella Conservation District education coordinator Mike LeValley said spaying could kill flies and other types of insects, impacting birds, frogs and other animals along the food chain.
