WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Barack Obama reiterated his call for more gun control reforms in the wake of the reported mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

Speaking to CBS News, Obama said Congress should act in a bipartisan manner to close loopholes, including one that allows people on the TSA no-fly list to legally purchase firearms.

“There are steps we can take to make Americans safer,” he said. “We should never think this is something that just happens in the normal course of events.”

Obama said the pattern of U.S. mass shootings “has no parallel anywhere else in the world.”

it is becoming sad how many of these there are suddenly. Like, the media and government are pushing an agenda. I know a wise man once said “If you add up all the coincidences … it cannot be coincidence” :/

The reason there are more of them is that nobody has done anything about securing our borders. People come and go from this country pretty much at will, whether they are citizens or not, whether they are terrorists or not, and Obama says that this is fine…that open and porous borders are fine, the people who cross them illegally have a right to do so (never mind the lack of logic there), and that the price of freedom is to allow terrorists to shoot American citizens who need to be disarmed so that they can allow it to happen without the ability to engage in self-defense.

Of course there are more of them, how could there NOT be under those circumstances? Obama is doing everything except holding the American people hostage himself! How he has not been tried for treason is a mystery to me, and is perhaps the biggest indication we have that we have no Constitutionally functional federal government.

We have shootings – the rest of the world has mass bombings. They have bombings because of restrictions on guns and because they can’t afford them. What laws does Obuma propose to stop this – confiscation by his Gestapo? Chicago, Australia and Britain have the strictest gun laws in the world – we know how well they work in Chicago, but few know that violent crime increased 400% in Australia after their ‘gun bans’ and Britain’s violent crime rate is on a rapid uptick. Punish the criminals, because the law abiding citizens already obey the laws, and more laws will do nothing.

I think the various news media can shoulder some of the blame also, since they excitedly give the perpetrators all the notoriety and publicity they could ever hope for. Should be an absolute blackout on any such incidents, then at least the perps will get NO publicity from their actions.

Does the president know enough about the details of this case to suppose that any of the measures he proposes would have had an effect?

At least partly to blame are those who would remove pictures of Jesus and copies of the Lord’s Prayer from our public schools, or monuments to the Ten Commandments from a courthouse lawn, and not replace them with something equally compelling. Most people desire to belong to something or someone bigger and better than themselves. If you block access to one god or religion, they’ll find another one, like ISIS.

Obama is an idiot… California has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation. And San Bernardino is a lower class (a lot of ghetto) city. I lived there, and owned a business there. Funny how the other shootings that happen every day in southern California do not make headlines. One crazy bastard goes on a rampage, and that jackass wants more laws.

Oh please…Obama calls for gun reform if his eggs are cold in the morning. Gun reform is NOT the solution to the problem. The solution to the problem is more strict enforcement of the laws already existing which are supposed to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill…you know, the people who are committing these atrocities.
Treat dangerously mentally ill people as threats to society and keep them locked up until they can be successfully treated and reintegrated into society! THAT is how you keep the public safe from the mentally ill, no matter what weapon they choose to use. Does Obama really think gun laws would have prevented the Oklahoma City bombing??? Does he???

Obama himself is part of the problem here, and he is too blind to even see that.

The media is starving for these stories and the people doing the shootings get all the attention they are looking for, how about stricter laws on the media or maybe a huge dose of common sense! something America has lost.

Obama was when elected and remains the most ill equiped and mentally challenged president in our great nations history. His ignorance is outdone only by his arrogance.

      • Commonsense

Obama is ten times worse than W. Obama has no clue what to do. I would rather take the fight to them instead of waiting for attacks and blaming global warming for them.

Sorry, people kill, not guns. Media overload all day gives rise to copy cats and those idiots who seek their 10 seconds of fame. Blackouts after things like this are the key. Take away the advertisement of crime and it will stop what the criminals want, publicity.

Is anyone else concerned that the administration wants to constrain gun control amid terrorism? Do we really think that removing a constitutional right will eliminate this? I think we have apples and oranges here. The issue is the source. The administration doesn’t seem to be the least bit interested in the source of the terrorism just the branches or leafs.

Of course Barry will dance in the blood of t he victims and call for more laws that infringe on lawful Americans.
Of course he will do nothing to stop the stop the people who did it. their names have been released and guess what?
Hillary’s Arab spring and Obama’s religion of peace.

Don’t allow obama to push HIS agenda. IT WAS HIS JOB TO PROTECT AMERICA instead he radicalized it. Under obama our country has been ” fundamentally transformed”.
Don’t vote for support anyone with a “D” in front of their name.

You had me with you 100% right up until the last sentence.
If you think that this is a Republican vs. Democrat issue, then you are exactly the kind of sheep that the media has spoon fed you to be.

R&D are two tines on the same fork.
We don’t need a fork. We need a knife.
It is the responsibility of both the R&D pols to give the people what they want and need, and because it isn’t what either of them have to offer they are unwilling to do so.
We therefore end up in this gridlock that we have now.

This is the only reaosn that Trump has the appeal he does, btw. Because he is an “outsider”.
He is seen by the American public as “not a fork” (or at least not a tine), and therefore preferable to what we have now.
And maybe he really is a knife.
But maybe he is a spoon.

In any case, there is very little important difference between Rep and Dem anymore. They are equally destructive and ineffectual in providing this country with what it wants.

This is not leadership. This is reactionary and irrational.
This man is a menace. A danger to this country and what we stand for.
No, we wouldn’t have been better off with Romney, but we sure as hell aren’t moving forward with this puppet either.

Cain killed Abel with a rock. The problem is not guns. The problem is the hearts and minds of people. Unfortunately, this president’s “go-to” reply is always “more gun control.” California has some of the strictest gun laws and that did not stop this.

After perusing these comments, I thank my fellow Americans for telling it like it is.
My only question is, despite a strong consensus of opinion about the divider-in-chief, how does this loser get a 44% approval rating?!
Scary. Four out of ten people you pass on the street approve of him, & apparently, most of those folks are employed by media. The faithful. The water carriers. Those who were afraid to even utter the name of the perp, while they await their marching orders, their spin of the day.
