GRANDVILLE, Mich. – As FOX 17 continues our Forever Home series, we introduce you to YahMeshia, 11, during a special holiday shopping trip. This season, RiverTown Crossings donated $500 in gift cards to kids in Michigan foster care to make sure they have a special few gifts of their own this holiday.

“We always want to be able to participate and make a difference in the communities that we’re in,” said Amanda Gielczyk. “It’s important to our company, so we try to do that whenever possible.”

FOX 17 spent the afternoon with YahMeshia during her special shopping trip, who shared her holidays wishes, and most of all how she wants a loving family.

A sixth grader, YahMeshia is an avid reader who knew exactly what she wanted for the holidays: she headed straight to the book aisles, and explained that “books help friendship.”

“Some of my friends get hurt by bullies and I read them to help teach them how they don’t have to be scared about bullies,” said YahMeshia.

YahMeshia was in search of more books, just like the ones she has read to her friends before, using them to teach her friends to be stronger than school bullies.

“I like to look after little kids, I like helping other people,” said YahMeshia.

Helping other people is truly important to YahMeshia. She is a talented singer and took second place singing in her school talent show last year, telling FOX 17 she only signed up because her friends were scared to compete alone.

“(My friend and I) both did different acts, I just did it because they didn’t want to be the only person from our class to do an act,” said YahMeshia.

One day YahMeshia said she wants to go to college to study music and art. Talented all around, YahMeshia loves to read and write, sing and learn to play piano, and bake; but she wants to do all of these things with a family of her own.

“A mom and a dad, with little sisters,” YahMeshia said she hopes to have.

FOX 17 would like to extend a special thank you to RiverTown Crossings for a wonderful filming session and donation to kids and teen in foster care!
