LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two law enforcement officials say the man who bought the assault rifles used in the San Bernardino massacre is expected to be charged as early as Thursday.

The officials say the exact federal charges against Enrique Marquez aren’t immediately clear. The officials aren’t authorized to discuss it by name and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Authorities say Marquez legally purchased the high-powered guns used by Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife to kill 14 people at a holiday gathering of Farook’s health department co-workers on Dec. 2.

Farook and Tashfeen Malik died in a shootout with police hours later.

The 24-year-old Marquez was a neighbor and longtime friend of Farook’s, and the two later became related through marriage. Marquez and Farook’s brother are married to sisters from Russia.
