WEST MICHIGAN — Consumers Energy is reporting nearly all of its 183,000 customers who lost power Christmas Eve have had it restored.

Anyone still without power in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, and Montcalm counties is being asked to verify their outage by either calling 1-800-477-5050 or online at ConsumersEnergy.com/OutageCenter.

Tens of thousands of customers were affected after a strong wind storm Wednesday night and early Thursday morning brought gusts topping 60 miles per hour. Crews were called from out of state to assist. Consumers Energy estimates more than 1,700 employees and contractors worked to restore power this holiday weekend.

“While we have restored more than 90 percent of the customers affected by this holiday storm, we will not rest until all the lights are back on,” said Mary Palkovich, the company’s vice president of energy delivery.

“We remain focused on completing the restoration safely and thank our customers for their patience and understanding, especially during the Christmas season.”

As of 4 a.m. Sunday, Consumers Energy estimated approximately 13,000 customers remained without service.
