CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich.  -- Ski resorts are finally opening after an unseasonably warm start to winter.

Alycia Choroszucha, marketing director for Cannonsburg Ski Area, said the ski area has been able to makesnow non-stop for two days and hopes to open Sunday.  It good news for skiers and even better news for businesses who profit during the snowy season.

"Our hope is the community will kind of hold us up," said Choroszucha. "Come out, go skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. We made thousands of dollars in investments with our tubing facility with overall area improvements. So the more the community comes out, the better you helps us."

Bittersweet Ski Resort in Otsego is also feeling an impact.

Both Cannonsburg and Bittersweet have been forced to operate under the mercy of Mother Nature. Both resorts are hoping to find lost revenue in an extended season on the slopes. Bittersweet re-opened their slopes Friday for the third time after struggling with the same wet and warm temperatures. Bittersweet's General Manager, Victor Gayheart, said opening so late in the game has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

"We feel bad for the employees," said Gayheart. "We really want to open. We feel bad for the season passers because last year we opened in November, late November. The year before, November. So when we open in December these days it almost feels like you're a little bit behind."
