ALLEGAN, Mich. - The Allegan County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man considered to be "voluntarily missing."

Joshua Thomson, 22,  was last seen on December 30 at his grandmother's home that day. His grandmother said she heard a vehicle outside but can't quite remember. Since then family and friends have formed a search team in hopes to find Joshua.

"Our mission is to basically get the word out there, get people on foot looking for him, get flyers out there, follow up on any leads," said family friend Ashley Priebe. "I mean as soon as we get them we need to get out there and follow up on them. Being hands-on is crucial I think to finding him."

Priebe tells FOX 17 that there have been reports of Thomson being spotted around town.  One tip had Thomson at the Admiral Gas Station on Friday night.  A clerk at the Shell station by the Village Market in Allegan said she saw Thomson there on Saturday night, but he's not seen on the surveillance video.

"Maybe if some of the video shows him in the store, we can get some footage of the parking lot, possibly see what kind of vehicle he was in, maybe that’ll lead us somewhere," said Priebe who continues to receive tips. "Hope that he's still in the Allegan area."

Joshua's mother Heather said for him not to check in with her is strange considering they were very close.

"We usually go to concerts together and mud runs," said Heather. "We usually talk everyday or every other day. It’s not like him not to call me. I don’t understand what’s going on."

The search team said they start looking for Joshua early in the morning while it's still dark and spend their days talking to neighbors and locals about Josh's latest whereabouts.

"We’re just going to keep looking and check places that he goes and hope we find him somewhere," said Joshua's friend Alesha Fuss. "We hope a friend contact's or anything. Anything we can find out would be really good."
