EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 9-year-old girl is dead following a fire at a mobile home Sunday afternoon.

Emmett Township Public Safety said the call came in around 2:10 p.m. for a fire in the 600 block of Westbrook Avenue.

When firefighters arrived on scene, the mobile home was fully involved in the fire. Officials say they acted quickly to try and search for the girl. She did not escape.

The principal of Verona Elementary confirmed with FOX 17 that the girl who died in the fire was Brettlyn Rench, 9.

Officials say the parents were taken to a local hospital. The mother is suffering from burns and the father is being treated for smoke inhalation.

As this point, Public Safety officials don’t believe the cause of the fire is suspicious, but because of the death they are treating it as a crime scene.

The fire remains under investigation.
