VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. – The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department announced the loss of one of their K9 unit members this weekend.

K9 Goliath died early Sunday morning.  He was 12 years old.  He had been diagnosed with cancer just two weeks before, according to the department.

Goliath was a full-blooded German Shepherd that was born in Czechoslovakia.  He was brought to a training facility in Indiana just a few months after being born.  He had been with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office since April of 2005 and partnered with Sergeant Tony Evans.

Goliath was certified in narcotics detection, tracking, area and building searches, suspect apprehension, evidence recovery, obedience and handler protection.
