Woman pleads ‘no contest’ to domestic violence after attack with a fish

MUSKEGON, Mich. – A woman who was accused of attacking her boyfriend with a mounted fish has pleaded no contest to domestic violence.

Candace Griffin, 59, entered the misdemeanor plea Tuesday in Muskegon County District Court.  She was supposed to enter the plea on Monday, but she was sent to jail for the day for showing up to court intoxicated, according to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s office.

The 61-year-old boyfriend of Griffin’s was using a mounted sailfish as a model for sketching on November 1st when they began to fight.  Griffin then allegedly hit the man over the head with the fish and poked him with the nose of the fish, according to Whitehall police.  The man suffered injuries to his hand.

Griffin will be sentenced on February 24.  After pleaded ‘no contest’ the judge ordered her to probation for her bond and to undergo a domestic violence assessment and to avoid alcohol.
