Philanthropist Ralph Hauenstein remembered

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Friends and family will say goodbye to a philanthropist, inventor, war hero and more, who has been part of Grand Rapids since 1930.

Ralph Hauenstein died this past weekend at the age of 103.  You can watch the funeral live on the Grand Rapids Catholic Diocese website at this LINK. The funeral is being held at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew in Grand Rapids.

The Hauenstein name is on several West Michigan endeavors including the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies at Grand Valley State University, the Grace Hauenstein Library at Aquinas College and the Saint Mary’s Hauenstein Parkinson’s Center.  Hauenstein was also one of three board members who helped establish the Van Andel Institute for Medical Research.
