MUSKEGON, Mich. – A scholarship with the goal of sending Muskegon area high school graduates to college has hit its fundraising goal.

The Muskegon Area Promise announced Friday that they have hit their $1 million goal with a $100,000 investment from the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.

The Promise scholarship is for resident Muskegon area high school graduates with a 3.5 grade point average or higher.  Currently, there are 14 college students at Baker College of Muskegon and Muskegon Community College on the two-year scholarship.  Students must have graduated from Muskegon, Muskegon Heights or Holton High Schools.

Officials say that the scholarship will be extended in 2017 to all schools in Muskegon County.

Just over $35,000 was raised through the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District’s GoFundMe page.
