SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (AP) – Authorities say an undercover officer has been injured and a suspect killed in an exchange of gunfire during a Detroit-area prostitution sting.

Police say a regional law enforcement task force was working Friday evening at a hotel in the Detroit suburb of Southfield. Michigan State Police spokesman Michael Shaw says the man identified as a suspect shot the unidentified officer in the chest but he was wearing body armor.

The officer returned fire, and investigators say he killed the suspect.

The officer had minor injuries.

Shaw says Detroit’s North American International Auto Show, which opened to the public Saturday, “naturally brings a type of human trafficking.”  He tells the Detroit Free Press that the trafficking doesn’t involve children but declined to elaborate.
