WEST MICHIGAN - Several events and service projects took place Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Many schools were closed and most area colleges had special programs to honor Dr. King.  The annual march at Grand Rapids Community College has been canceled due to unsafe road conditions from the snow.  The program will still be held at 11:30am at the Ford Fieldhouse.

Calvin College, Grand Valley State University, Western Michigan University, Baker College in Muskegon and Davenport University all have events today as well.

The United Way and Volunteer Kalamazoo are holding Day of Service activities around the area Monday as well.
