GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A man accused of two November bank robberies in West Michigan was at least nice about it.

Court records tell how Michael Winbush, 53, of Wyoming allegedly robbed the Lake Michigan Credit Union in the 3800 block of South Division in Wyoming on November 27th and the Flagstar Bank in the 1900 block of 44th Street SE in Grand Rapids on November 30th.

According to the complaint filed by the FBI agent investigating the crimes, Winbush came into the Lake Michigan Credit Union and passed the teller a note saying that he had a gun and wanted cash now.  While the teller was getting the money, he started asking how the teller’s Thanksgiving was.

No other employees or customers knew that a robbery was going on until the suspect left.

In the second robbery, Winbush asked for more cash because “he was going to be going to prison for the rest of his life for this crime and needed more money.”

In both robberies, the suspect passed a note saying that he had a gun, but none were ever found.

Surveillance cameras at both robberies captured images that employees matched to Winbush after he was arrested in December.

Winbush will next be in federal court for a status hearing on Jan. 28.
