NOVI, Mich. (AP) — A fire in suburban Detroit has killed five people who were found in the basement of their burning home.

Authorities attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation Sunday on two of the victims, but were unsuccessful in reviving them. The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. in Novi, northwest of Detroit.

The Detroit News reports that the victims were found after the fire was extinguished. Officials say they appeared to be in their late 20s and early 30s and were co-workers at an area restaurant.

Novi Public Safety Director David Molloy says a preliminary investigation shows the fire started in the basement.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

There was a housefire in Georgetown township, right here in west Michigan too.
Why that one is not mentioned on a local news website while one that is outside our area is mentioned is really the only proof you need to see that Fox17 is nothing more than a tabloid anymore.
Everyone is safe in Georgetown township, so that doesn’t merit mention despite it being of local interest.
Housefires in Detroit happen almost every day, but the fact that it was fatal warrants a mention despite it being of no local interest whatsoever.

“These days everybody wants to go to the murder show.”
