Hillary Clinton announced during Thursday’s debate with Bernie Sanders that she will be visiting Flint this Sunday to personally speak with the city’s mayor about the ongoing  water crisis there.

When asked whether she would order a federal response to help the state if the state is failing, she responded, “Absolutely, absolutely. I will be there [in Flint] to talk with the mayor on Sunday to get an in-depth briefing to learn what is and what is not happening.”

Clinton went on to mention the Flint children that have been poisoned as a result of lead contaminated water, saying that she would work to try to remedy the damage that’s been done.

Sanders chimed in, calling for Governor Rick Snyder’s resignation and claiming that “his irresponsibility is so outrageous.”

In a release, the Michigan Republican Party criticized Clinton’s decision to visit Flint, accusing her of bringing the politicization of Flint “to the next level:”

“This ‘break’ from her campaign would seem sincerer had she done it when she first started mentioning it, not when she is facing a 30-point deficit in the polls in New Hampshire. The political games involving Flint need to stop, and the focus needs to be on providing resources and solutions for the families and residents affected by this crisis.”
