JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. --  A woman in Ottawa County was hospitalized Monday afternoon after crawling through a field for help. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office tells FOX 17 the 72-year-old was chasing her horse in the area of 36th Avenue after it got loose from its pen when she fell down.  Investigators say the woman lost her cane during the fall and didn't have a cell phone on her, so she crawled 75 yards to a neighbor's home for help.

"She wasn’t dressed for it," said Captain Mark Bennett with the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. "She just left her home, she thought for a short time, to get the horse back into the pasture. And the horse continued on toward the neighbor's, and that’s how she got over there to that area."

The victim was transported to Holland Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

"She is very fortunate the neighbor was home," said Captain Bennett. "It’s just a kind of calamity of errors there that fortunately turned out okay."

The woman's horse was found near a neighbor's house and was safely returned.
