BAILEY, Colo. (KDVR) – A Park County sheriff’s deputy was killed and two other deputies were injured in a shooting Wednesday morning that also left the suspect dead, the Park County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. in the Friendship Ranch subdivision in Bailey, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies closed off the area at Pine Road and Pine Drive.

A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said the deputies approached the suspect when a shooting broke out. A 10-year member of the sheriff’s office was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured deputies were taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood. One, a 12-year member of the sheriff’s office, has life-threatening injuries and was in surgery. The second, a 20-year member of the sheriff’s office, had nonlife-threatening injures and was being treated for his wounds.

None of the deputies was identified.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. It’s not known if the suspect was shot by deputies or took their own life.

No details about where exactly the shooting took place were released, though a sheriff’s office spokeswoman said the bomb squad was being brought in for an unknown reason.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation have been called in to assist with the investigation.

The sheriff’s office believes there was only one suspect.
