KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — A former prosecutor has been appointed as defense lawyer for a man accused of killing six people in western Michigan.

Eusebio Solis, based in Battle Creek, declined to comment when reached Wednesday by The Associated Press.

He will represent Jason Dalton, who is charged with killing six people during random shootings Saturday in the Kalamazoo area. Two people are in the hospital.

Solis is a former high-ranking prosecutor in Calhoun County. He ran for judge in 2014 but finished third in the primary election.

The 45-year-old Dalton is in the Kalamazoo County jail. Police say he admitted his role in the shootings.

Federal agents say 11 long guns and four handguns were seized after his arrest. With no criminal record, nothing barred Dalton from owning them.
