KALAMAZOO, Mich. — After Sunday’s news that the 14-year-old critically injured in a shooting spree had been taken off a ventilator and was breathing on her own, the hospital caring for her upgraded the condition of Abigail Kopf Monday.

Bronson Hospital upgraded Kopf’s condition to ‘serious’ Monday morning, after the girl has been in ‘critical’ condition since being shot outside the Kalamazoo Cracker Barrel restaurant Feb. 20.  Four others were shot and killed outside the restaurant and two more were shot and killed at the Seelye Kia dealership on Stadium Drive.

Funerals for all six victims were held over the weekend.  The suspect, Jason Dalton, is in custody and charged with 18 felonies, including the six murders.

Sunday, family members on Kopf’s GoFundMe page announced her breathing tube had been removed and she was breathing on her own.  She also moved and wiped her own face with a towel.

Tiana Carruthers, who also survived the shooting, remains hospitalized.
