MUSKEGON, Mich. – A Detroit man accused of starting a gunfight at a Muskegon Charity Lodge that killed three people has been sentenced to prison.

Jamel Kawon Quinney, also known as “Michigan Mel”, was sentenced to 6.5 to 15 years in prison for two counts of manslaughter.  Quinney pleaded guilty to the charges in January.

The shooting happened September 13, 2013 in the parking lot of the former Charity Lodge at 149 Ottawa Street.  Quinney was not charged with firing the shots that killed Dupree Johnson and Ja’Colby Brown, but he was charged with firing the first shots in the incident.  A third person, Jalisa Love, died at the scene after being hit by a car after being shot.
