KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 21-year-old man died exiting a Metro Transit bus after being hit by a SUV Friday afternoon in Kalamazoo Township.

Kalamazoo Township Police say the crash happened at about 1:09 p.m. at Gull Road (M-43) and Brook Drive. Witnesses say the man got off the bus and ran across the street, crossing the front of the bus. That’s when an eastbound SUV driven by a 47-year-old Kalamazoo woman hit him.

The man – later identified by police as Trevon Alexander-Devell Williams – was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital, where he later died. His name is being withheld until his next of kin is notified.

During an initial investigation, witnesses say the traffic light was green for east/west traffic. Police say that the man ran north across Gull Road despite the traffic signals.

The Gull Road and Brook Drive intersection was closed, but reopened later around 3:45 p.m.
