WYOMING, Mich. (AP) – Kent County soon will provide 911 dispatch services for Wyoming in western Michigan.

The county says its Board of Commissioners approved the agreement Thursday.

Beginning July 1, 911 calls in Wyoming will be directed to the county’s dispatch center.

The sheriff’s office currently provides fire and police dispatch for all local units of government in the county with the exception of Grand Rapids and Wyoming.

Wyoming reported just over 28,000 police calls and 5,370 fire calls in 2015.

City Manager Curtis Holt says officials believe the “move will lead to a more integrated and collaborative emergency communication system countywide.”

County commissioners are expected to vote later this month on a proposal to add 11 new full-time positions and move three part-time jobs to full time to handle the additional workload.
