FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A man has been charged with punching a protester at a Donald Trump rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina, after video of the altercation surfaced.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Sean Swain told The Fayetteville Observer that John Franklin McGraw, 78, of Linden was charged with assault and disorderly conduct at Wednesday night’s rally.

North Carolina phone listings for McGraw rang disconnected Thursday.

Rakeem Jones tells The Associated Press that he was being escorted out of Crown Coliseum by several deputies when he got hit.

Jones said he recalled thinking: “Wow. The police watched me get hit.”

Witness Ronnie Rouse took video and told the AP he couldn’t believe that Jones got punched in front of law enforcement officers.

So Rakeem Jones was already being escorted out by the police…
Sounds like he earned a good smaK up-side his head.

If you’ve ever been to a left wing protest ( and I have) it’s best to just keep your hands in your pockets. The urge to educate the special snowflakes can be overwhelming.
I say give the old man a free pass. Call it…A blow to the head for America. Maybe give him the medal of freedom..

Yeah nothing says “freedom” like sucker-punching someone who’s already being restrained and escorted out for peacefully protesting just because they have different political views than you. That SCREAMS freedom.

So this “man” took a sucker punch at someone who was being escorted out so someone would grab him before he could swing back.

Real tough old guy. Only a punk takes a shot at someone who can’t hit back.

If that was me, I’m waiting out side the jail and we’re going to have a true 1 on 1. I’m pretty sure in a situation like that this old coward would be apologizing since he wouldn’t have a mob protecting him from gettinghis hip busted.

And to NoPCforme. As an American citizen I’ll exercise my freedom of speech anytime I feel like it anytime I want and if you hit me you’ll get it worse than what I did to insurgents over in the sandbox. I actually fought for my right.

Two things here, firstly this guy John Franklin McGraw should be convicted not only of the current charges but also making a public threat to kill Rakeem Jones next time he see’s him. This guy McGraw needs to be kept under psychological evaluation and ongoing observation and have to report to the authorities from time to time after he serves some time in jail. Secondly the police department needs to investigate and reprimand the officers involved for not protecting those they had under escort and require them to take courses relating to this kind of event and how they should act. I don’t want to say race card here but I think the FBI should also look into the officers involved behavior since the incident was recorded and obviously shows many of the officers just ignoring the assault on Rakeem that happened right in front of them, could that be because he is of African American persuasion, makes you wonder. Also why was John Franlkin McGraw allowed to remain at the rally and don’t say they couldn’t find him he never moved from his spot where the incident happened. Do we really want this kind of police protection, I think not.
