HOLLAND, Mich. – About 500 Consumers Energy customers are without power in Holland after a truck crashed into a support cable on a power pole and caused the electrical line to snap.

Crews on the scene say the truck from a Hamilton, Michigan farm veered off of 120th Avenue and went into a ditch at the Hickory Woods Farms subdivision.  The truck was pulling a trailer that took out the support cables of a electric pole.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reports that David Westrate, 70, was driving the truck and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.  It appears he may have suffered from a medical condition that caused him to lose control of the truck.

Consumers Energy says that power may be off for a few hours as they work to re-support the pole and reconnect the lines.
