LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan lawmakers have put together a series of proposed bills that would allow citizens and journalists to file open records requests with the governor’s office and the Legislature.

The 10-bill package was announced Wednesday in Lansing.

It is sponsored by a group of nine Republicans and Democrats in the state Legislature and could be introduced in the House as soon as Thursday.

Republican state Rep. Ed McBroom says dozens of other Republicans and Democrats support legislation in the package.

Michigan is one of two states that don’t subject the governor’s office to open records request laws.
