BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A Battle Creek man injured in Tuesday’s terror attacks in Brussels is expected to walk again.
Sebastien Bellin was at an airport in Brussels preparing to return home when one of the bombs detonated. His family tells FOX 17 News that just before the explosion, he was shot at by one of the terrorists. His family says that Bellin thinks the gunshot helped him avoid the brunt of the explosion by knocking him over.
The Twitter account for the Belgian basketball team Oostende reported that he was thrown 20 meters from the bomb blast.
The blast fractured his left leg, causing tissue damage that can mended with plastic surgery.
Bellin was a basketball player for Oakland University and a team in Belgium before retiring. He was in Brussels for work when the terror attacks happened.
His family says that Bellin is awake and alert. He’s not expected to return home anytime soon, as the bulk of his recovery is happening in Belgium.
The terror attacks consisted of a subway bombing and twin explosions at an airport.
