MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. -- It has been a tough month for students and staff at Montague High School, where two students have taken their own lives in the span of three weeks.

The district lost a freshman student to suicide three weeks ago, and a sophomore student took their own life Tuesday.

Montague Superintendent Jeffrey Johnson says that the school has grief counselors on hand for everyone and mentioned that counselors' doors have been and always will be open in the future for anyone who is grieving.

Johnson said the counselors are focusing on some students in particular, including those who were friends and teammates with the students.

"We put together a list of all the individuals that we see right away are very important to visit and talk with and work through a grieving process when you lose a student in the district," Johnson said.
