Road crews get busy; lane and ramp closures result

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — From Grand Rapids to Muskegon to Kalamazoo, road crews are being sent out to work on highways, and the result is lane and ramp closures. Most of the work is just maintenance, but the biggest project is the complete redesign of the interchange at I-96 and Cascade Road in Grand Rapids.

Here’s the job list for April 5:

I-96 at Cascade Road

  • Lane closure on westbound Cascade Road from Kenmoor Avenue to just west of I-96 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. April 5.
  • Lane closure on eastbound and westbound Cascade Road at I-96 from 11 p.m. April 5 until the end of the project in the fall.
  • Ramp closing from eastbound I-96 to eastbound Cascade Road. The ramp will be eliminated. All traffic from eastbound I-96 to Cascade Road will take the first exit. Turns will be allowed onto Cascade Road in both directions.

M-6 ramp to I-196

  • The ramp from westbound M-6 to westbound I-196 will be closed April 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. After that, there will be one lane closed on the ramp for about four weeks.

I-196 in Ottawa County

  • Westbound I-196 will have lane closures April 5 from mile 60 to mile 57 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

US-31 in Muskegon

  • Lane closure on southbound US-31 at Laketon Avenue 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5.
    Ramp closed from Laketon Avenue to southbound US-31 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5.

US-31 in Norton Shores

  • Pontaluna Road is closed over US-31 until late June. Ramps in the interchange are open, but ramp closures begin April 11.

I-94 in Kalamazoo County

  • Lane closure on eastbound I-94 from 9th Street to 12th Street 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

East Grand Rapids

  • Westbound Lake Drive closed either east of Breton Road or west of Breton Road daily 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. through April 8. Detours will be posted.

Caledonia Township

  • 84th Street is closed over the Thornapple River for bridge rehab until June 3.

Lowell

  • Lane closures on M-21 Fulton Street east of Division Street until 4 p.m.
