GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital officially dedicated their Cancer Rehabilitation Program Tuesday.

Susan Ford Bales, daughter of President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford, took part in the ceremony to dedicate the Betty Bloomer Ford Cancer Rehabilitation Program.

Hortense Bloomer, Betty Ford's mother, served as president of the Mary Free Bed Guild in 1931 and 1932.  Betty Ford was a founding member of the Junior Guild in 1935.

The program is the first designated and comprehensive cancer rehabilitation program in West Michigan.

The program was announced at groundbreaking ceremonies in April of 2013 for the Mary Free Bed $66.4 million expansion and renovation project.

Next month, the Betty Bloomer Ford Cancer Rehabilitation Conference is coming to Grand Rapids and healthcare professionals from around the country and expected to attend.
